This Week in 4K & Blu-ray — October 20, 2026

Pretty damn stacked week for physical media. Some great horror releases, two of my favorite animated shows getting complete Blu-ray collections, and Criterion dropping an absolutely massive Kubrick set. There’s a lot going on this week, and quite a few releases I’m excited about.
Here’s what I’m looking at.
Flip’s Pick of the Week
Other Pickups
In Consideration

I Want Your Sex (2026)
Gregg Araki’s latest movie is getting a 4K release from Magnolia, and this one definitely caught my attention.
Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman star in what looks like a pretty wild mix of sexuality, obsession, power, and manipulation. Pretty much the kind of movie that gets me interested based on the premise alone.
I’m always down for something a little weird, especially when it’s willing to go places that more conventional movies won’t.
Not sure if I’ll be picking up the 4K immediately, but this is definitely on my radar.

Masters of the Universe (2026)
We’re also getting the new Masters of the Universe movie on 4K, including a SteelBook option.
I’m interested in this one, although I’m not completely sold on grabbing it right away.
There are a couple editions to choose from, and that’s usually where I end up debating with myself about which version I actually want. Especially when the SteelBook artwork is part of the appeal.
Might end up adding this one to the collection, but I’m holding off on making that decision for now.

The Cable Guy (1996)
Okay, so I wanted to include this one because I’m still considering grabbing it.
The Cable Guy is finally making its 4K debut for its 30th anniversary, and Sony went with a limited-edition SteelBook.
It’s a new restoration from the original camera negative with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, which is pretty cool. Plus, there are some new extras featuring Ben Stiller and Matthew Broderick.
Definitely one of those releases that’s tempting me. Haven’t decided yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I eventually grab it.
Worth a Mention

The Complete Kubrick
Okay, now this is a hell of a release.
Criterion is putting out Stanley Kubrick’s entire directorial filmography in one massive 30-disc collection. Thirteen feature films, three shorts, and over 25 hours of bonus material.
That’s insane.
We’re talking 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut, Barry Lyndon, Dr. Strangelove, and everything else. All together in one collection.
And the packaging looks incredible. Criterion really went all out with this one.
But here’s my dilemma. I already own some of Kubrick’s films on standard 4K, so spending several hundred dollars on a box set that includes movies I’ve already got is a little tough to justify right now.
That’s one of the frustrating things about collecting. You can already own perfectly good editions of movies and then something like this comes along and makes you want to buy everything again lol.
Still, I love that this set exists. It’s the kind of release that reminds me why physical media is so damn cool. Something this comprehensive, with all the restorations, special features, and packaging, feels like an actual collector’s piece.
I’m definitely holding off for now. But I wouldn’t rule it out down the road, especially if I can catch it at a good price.
Easily one of the biggest physical media releases of the year.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
And Criterion isn’t done there.
The Silence of the Lambs is also getting a new 4K edition this week, featuring a restoration supervised by cinematographer Tak Fujimoto.
It’s being presented in Dolby Vision, with a bunch of extras including commentaries, interviews, and deleted scenes.
Another pretty significant release, especially for collectors who care about having different editions of their favorite movies.
Between this and the Kubrick set, Criterion is having one hell of a week.
A Few More Releases

An American Werewolf in London (1981)
An American Werewolf in London (1981) is also getting a 45th-anniversary 4K SteelBook. Hard to complain about more horror releases this close to Halloween.

Futureworld (1976)
Futureworld (1976) is coming to 4K through Arrow Video. Another interesting boutique release for anyone collecting older sci-fi.

The [REC] Collection
And The [REC] Collection is getting a Blu-ray release, bringing the Spanish horror films together in one set.
Quite a few good options this week, even beyond the stuff I’m personally considering.
Final Thoughts
Really solid week for physical media. Barbarian is my pick, but Regular Show and Adventure Time are right there with it. Those three are definitely the ones I’m planning to add to the collection.
And then there’s that Kubrick set. Man, I’d love to own it eventually. Just not something I can justify picking up right now.
A good mix of horror, animation, boutique releases, and some serious collector’s editions.
Not a bad way to head into Halloween.
